Here is a selection of lithographic
prints made by Helen McLoughlin.
Lithographs are printed on limestones or metal plates. The process
was invented in 1798 and is based on a physical separation of the
inked (oily) and the uninked (wet) surfaces. The
preparation
of the limestones is a lengthly and complicated process, which
involves a chemical reaction that takes place on the stone. Many
artists have been attracted to this method as it captures with
accuracy the tones and images made by the artist.
